NEW YORK (Nas Fans Website) - Irv Gotti, CEO of Murder Inc. Records, is said to be in negotiations with Nas to have the rapper defect from Columbia Records, according to published reports. Murder Inc., which is distributed by Def Jam Records, is already home to Ja Rule, Ashanti, Charli Baltimore, and Vita, among others.

Last Tuesday (July 2) Gotti released a compilation, Irv Gotti Presents The INC. The first single from the set--"Down 4 U" featuring Ja Rule, Ashanti, Charli Baltimore, and Vita--is Number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

While making a promotional appearance for the new compilation at Boston's 94.5 FM, Gotti was quoted as saying, "It's not a 100 percent closed but me and the god (Nas) have been talking extensively."

Gotti has publicly shared in the past that he felt Nas needed a family behind him. Gotti was instrumental in bringing DMX and Jay-Z to Def Jam Records. Some fans might also remember that Gotti, who is also a producer, was the man behind the boards of Jay-Z's "Super Ugly," a song that was a response to Nas's "Ether."

Nas is presently on tour with Usher and Faith Evans--by press time. However, as recently as last week Nas publicly referred to Def Jam as the evil empire that is destroying real hip-hop.
