NEW YORK (604 Records) - Everyone's known it for awhile, but finally it's official - Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger has gotten his very own record label.
The imprint is called 604 Records, formed when Kroeger joined forces with Nickelback's longtime attorney Jonathan Simkin. According to a release announcing the formation of the new label, the goal of 604 Records will be to "seek out and develop undiscovered talent in the music world not only in North America, but globally."

The label will be distributed in the US by Nickelback's American home, Roadrunner Records, a label known for its heavier sounding bands like Soulfly and Slipknot. 604 Records will find its home turf distribution with Universal Music Canada, Roadrunner's distributor on this side of the border.

Apparently, Kroeger and Simkin realized they might be onto something when they worked together to help break Canadian rock band Default. That band's single, "Wasting My Time" has been a huge hit on both sides of the border and their debut album has been selling well. Kroeger produced and co-wrote on Default's debut and Simkin managed the business end of it all while Kroeger was on the road with Nickelback.

Since then, 604 Records has been established and the first act to be officially signed to the label is one of Kroeger's own proteges, Theory Of A Dead Man. Their debut will hit stores September 17, 2002 with its first single "Nothing Could Come Between Us" coming out on radio next month.

Kroeger has not yet commented on the newly formed label, but Simkin has expressed his excitement with the new project.
"Chad and I are doing something we are passionate about and truly enjoy. We both feel lucky and blessed to have this opportunity. Not only do we get to directly participate in the production and development of new talent, but we get to explore and participate in both the creative and business aspects of the music business. It is extremely rewarding."
