LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Live Nation) - When doors open to Fergie's highly-anticipated Verizon VIP Tour
Detroit concert on June 13th, fans will notice a difference. Upon entering the venue, there will be fresh apples for hungry live music aficionados and a greeter to let them know about upcoming shows.
Walls will be accented in a deep red hue.
Seven new sparkling chandeliers will shine light on hundreds of vintage posters, pictures and newspaper articles recounting legendary live music performances. After the show, a collectible poster commemorating the evening will be distributed to concert goers, a tradition that will continue for select shows throughout the year.
To devotees of the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco, one of contemporary music's most respected and enduring live concert venues, these traditions will seem familiar. So while it's no easy task to improve upon Detroit's State Theatre, Detroit music fans will undoubtedly appreciate the new traditions and aesthetic that will infuse the reconfigured club, which, upon Fergie's christening concert, will be known as The Fillmore Detroit.
"So far we have had two successful Fillmore openings and music fans love it," says Bruce Eskowitz, Live Nation's Chief Executive Officer of North American Music. "By adding State Theatre to our list of Fillmore venues, we hope to improve upon an already great concert experience for Detroit concert goers and take another step in the creation of an internationally recognizable live music brand."
The expansion of the Fillmore venue brand is well on its way with the recent additions of The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza, which opened April 11th, and The Fillmore Philadelphia at TLA, which opened April 27th. These two new Fillmores join the established Fillmore Auditorium in Denver and the original Fillmore San Francisco, bringing the total of Fillmore branded music venues in the United States to five, complementing the company's 11 House of Blues clubs.
The Fillmore concept has its roots in the original San Francisco music venue created by legendary concert promoter Bill Graham in 1965, where he discovered and nurtured such talents as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Santana and The Allman Brothers.
The State Theatre, designed by esteemed architect C. Howard Crane in 1925, has a long history of presenting local Detroit artists such as Eminem, Kid Rock, Iggy Pop and Jack White. As well, hundreds of important musical artists have passed through the doors of the venue over the years, including Bob Dylan, Metallica, the Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Prince, Sting, Radiohead, Keith Urban, Johnny Cash, Nickelback, Dave Matthews Band and Justin Timberlake.
Three-time Grammy Award winning artist, Fergie, will open The Fillmore Detroit with a special performance on Wednesday, June 13th. The tour is a notable stop on her Fergie Verizon VIP Tour, which incorporates new and interactive wireless technology to give away part of the tickets sold for the tour to her fans.
