STUDIO CITY, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Caption Records/ Studio City Sound) - Caption Records, the new independent record label formed by Grammy Award-winning mixer/producer Tom Weir and composer/producer Larry Weir, is set for a multi-media lift, with Caption artists featured in upcoming prime-time television airings as well as a feature-film soundtrack.
Caption - distributed by Burnside Distribution (physical) and INgrooves (digital) - has just released the debut album, "Top Dog," by country artist Buck McCoy, who will be seen performing on the Wednesday, June 27 airing of the new ABC-TV series the "Next Best Thing." The series producers tapped the Grand Prairie, Texas native due to his resemblance to Country superstar Tim McGraw. The album's first single, "A Few Steps Away," has already been well received by Country radio.
"I first saw Buck perform at the New Music Weekly Awards and he amazed me with his powerful style and stage presence," says program director Randy Adams of KFLS-FM (Klamath Falls, OR), where the single is already top 5. Jay Walker, KTTI-FM (Yuma, AZ) music director, adds, "Buck McCoy is literally 'A Few Steps Away' from stardom."
McCoy's network appearance is not the only upcoming Caption-related TV event, however: on Saturday, June 23, ABC Family Channel will air the '80s cult-classic film "Teen Witch," which contains many of the songs featured in Caption's first release: "Teen Witch The Musical." Recognizing the enduring popularity of the music they created for the movie - and the demand for a soundtrack album - the Weir brothers and the film's producer, Alana Lambros, are developing a stage musical based on the film. The first step was to record the studio cast album, featuring the single "Finest Hour" by Sara Niemietz & Blake, which immediately broke on the Mediabase Adult Contemporary chart.
"Teen Witch The Musical" also features Tessa Ludwick of Disney's "Movie Surfers" and Monet Lerner, who appears on Disney's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." "Teen Witch is a phenomenon from the '80s with a huge fan base. We've all been working hard on taking it on the road where it will hopefully reunite its fans, as well as appeal to the same audiences that enjoyed shows such as 'High School Musical' and 'Legally Blonde,'" says Tom Weir, who counts work with Gwen Stefani, Eric Clapton, Toots and The Maytals, and Keith Richards among his credits.
Moving on to the big screen, this fall, Caption will release the soundtrack from the film "Moondance Alexander," directed by Michael Damian whose Billboard chart-topper "Rock On" was produced with his brothers, Tom and Larry Weir. The film, to be distributed by Fox Faith, stars Lori Loughlin, Kay Panabaker, Don Johnson, and, in her film debut, Sasha Cohen. The film was a recent winner at the Newport Film Festival and will be distributed by Fox Faith.
The CD albums from Buck McCoy and Teen Witch The Musical are available now at iTunes, Amazon.com, and selected retailers.
