Robert Randolph & The Family Band are no strangers to the sports arena. ESPN College Football has recently been using the band's single "Ain't Nothing Wrong With That" in their promotional spots, and last year the band provided the theme music for six editions of Saturday Night Football on ABC. A self-proclaimed sports fanatic, Randolph is notorious for wearing a favorite team jersey on stage during his electrifying live performances.
"I'm a huge sports fan, always have been. Sports has been a great outlet for us because most people who love sports are real music fans," says Randolph. "We always like to get in front of people in the sports world."
Randolph is also one of the guitar greats to be featured in the upcoming Experience Hendrix Tour kicking off in Washington, DC on October 16, along with Buddy Guy, Jonny Lang, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, to name a few. Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), the same Jimi Hendrix Experience rhythm section that played behind Hendrix at Woodstock, will be on hand for the Experience Hendrix Tour dates as will Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon, a/k/a Double Trouble, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan's highly regarded rhythm section. Performances will include such Hendrix signature songs as "Purple Haze," "Hey Joe," and "Voodoo Child" and are sure to make the concert a very special event for both new and veteran Hendrix fans.
