Rebel will present the finest international DJ talent in a setting that offers a party for every individual taste - from posh bottle clientele to the music driven trendsetter. There is no better way to kick off this weekly event than with one of the worlds most amazing DJs/producers - Felix da Housecat!
Chicago's disco visionary Felix da Housecat is back to doing what he does best - dominate dance floors and the airways. On this evening at Rebel, Felix represents his stunning third album Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco. Not only is Virgo Blaktro Felix's black soul odyssey, it's also one of the purest pop rushes you'll hear all year. Says Felix: "I wanted to go Parliament, I wanted to go Sly And The Family Stone, I wanted to go black Prince. But at the same time I wanted to go like George Michael and Pet Shop Boys only them being black, 'cos this stuff is all black-influenced. So I had to do this Blaktro record'
Virgo Blaktro & The Movie Disco was recorded in Barcelona (at an old movie theatre turned studio) and Antwerp by Felix and Belgian producer BC and then mixed late last year in the Atlanta studio of Felix's pal Dallas Austin (producer of Kelis, Gwen Stefani, TLC etc).
The dirty thick stomp of lead single 'Something For Porno' was the key track that inspired what Felix is calling his 'sexy black electronic disco album'. "With this album, I said I think I know what I'm going to do. It only takes one song to know where you want to go and that song was 'Something 4 Porno', the first song I did. So I based everything around that.' Virgo Blaktro positions Felix as a gifted songwriter with a knack for crafting addictive pop. He indulges his obsession with '80s synth-pop on 'Lookin' My Best', 'I Seem 2 Be The 1', 'Sweet Frosti' and 'Monkey Cage', while anchoring the tunes in a rich and soulful funk groove.
You can expect Felix to offer his fans in attendance at the event a full-on assault of the most jackin' house and crispiest electro beats known to man. Operating the decks alongside Felix da Housecat is a who's who of New York City's most taste making DJs including DJs Are Not Rockstars, Alexander Technique, DJ Cat, Alex English and Dances With White Girls.
Over the past few months, Rebel has hosted the best up-and-coming indie bands and major label acts along side some of the worlds most in-demand DJs. With the November 3rd launch of 'Debauchery Saturdays,' Rebel immediately becomes New York City's top new spot to hear the finest international sounds on a weekly basis.
