SANTA MONICA, CA. (Top40 Charts/ MusiCares) - MusiCares today announced a commitment to provide aid to members of the music community affected by the recent California wildfires. The initiative is designed to provide emergency financial assistance to cover basic living expenses such as shelter, food, utilities and transportation; medical expenses including medications and doctor, dentist and hospital bills; clothing; instrument and recording equipment replacement; relocation costs; insurance payments and more.

"MusiCares was established by The Recording Academy to provide a broad range of critical assistance to music people in times of need," said Recording Academy President/CEO and MusiCares and GRAMMY Foundation President Neil Portnow. "In moments of profound crisis, such as these fires, or the hurricanes of 2005, it is imperative for us to remind the music community that MusiCares is ready to provide immediate help and support."

MusiCares Emergency Assistance program is available to music professionals who can document five years employment in the music industry or credited contribution to six commercially released recordings or music videos. Using an established confidential application and approval process, MusiCares' staff will work with clients to provide assistance in a timely and effective manner. For information and an application, individuals should contact MusiCares at 1.800.687.4227.

Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. MusiCares also focuses the resources and attention of the music industry on human service issues that directly impact the health and welfare of the music community.
