AMERICAN GANGSTER: JEFF FORT - The Blackstone Rangers street gang started off as a small group of teens from the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago, and eventually absorbed countless rival gangs based largely on Jeff Fort's remarkable leadership and organizing abilities. By the latter part of the 1960s decade, the renamed 'Black P. Stone Nation' was getting attention from liberal-minded sympathizers hoping to channel their energies into positive directions. The Johnson Administration's "War on Poverty" earmarked a million dollars for job training, much of it paid directly to gang members. Subsequently convicted for misuse of funds from the program, Fort maintained his leadership of the Nation from behind bars. In 1986, Fort was tried for promising to commit acts of domestic terrorism in return for money from Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi. He was found guilty and sentenced to 80 years, which he's currently serving in a maximum security federal prison.
