NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - On April 8, Anti Records will release 'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!,' the first Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds record in four years and their fourteenth studio album. The eleven new and original tracks on 'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!' feature the same incarnation of the Bad Seeds who performed on 2004's acclaimed 'Abattoir Blues/ The Lyre of Orpheus.' On this record Cave plays little piano and wrote and recorded most of the songs on organ. Also Bad Seeds violinist Warren Ellis swaps his trademark instrument for guitar, 12-string lute, and electric mandolin. The album also features Mick Harvey on guitar, Thomas Wydler on drums and percussion, Martyn Casey on bass, Conway Savage on piano and vocals, Jim Sclavunos on drums, percussion and vocals, and James Johnston on guitar and organ. Cave recently told MOJO Magazine "All of us feel we have done something really different. Musically there's just stuff you've never heard before. To be honest it's an unmitigated masterpiece." And of his songwriting he explains, "The lyrics took a lot of work - it took months to get them right," resulting in what Cave describes as "some of the grooviest, most right-on" songwriting of his career. Produced by Nick Cave the Bad Seeds and Nick Launay, the new album was recorded in London over the summer of 2007 at State of the Ark studios, and mixed at Mark Knopfler's British Grove. In 2007 Nick Cave formed the group Grinderman. Their self-titled release was called "some of the singer's rawest music since he fronted the Birthday Party in the '80s" by Entertainment Weekly. Also in 2007, Cave was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Hall of Fame.
