Against Me! - frontman Tom Gabel, guitarist
James Bowman, bassist Andrew Seward, and drummer Warren Oakes - will hit the road with
Foo Fighters this month, kicking off on January 16th in Miami, Florida. "New Wave," their Sire Records debut, charted on many 2007 year end lists with Spin Magazine declaring it "The Best Album of 2007."
Released on July 10th, "New Wave" was produced by Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage) and quickly became one of most critically acclaimed albums of the year. The New York Times raved that the album is " ... a short, sharp shock: 10 songs, with no shortage of vehemence" and Harp Magazine declares, "It's that totality of vision that makes Against Me! one of the most exciting - and beautiful - rock bands in a long, long time." In deference to "New Wave," legendary rock icon Bruce Springsteen concurs, "Love that record. That's a great record."
Rolling Stone called "New Wave" "one of 2007's best and hardest-rocking records," naming it 2007's No 9 Album Of The Year. Blender Magazine lists the album as No 5, while MTV.com places the album at No 2 in the list of best 2007 releases. MTV spotlighted Against Me! as their featured Artist Of The Week for the week of December 10th. The band was weaved in and out of programming on the channel in the form of various promos and vignettes showcasing live performances including a special acoustic show, and behind the scenes footage on the tour bus and beyond. Known for Gabel's politically charged lyrics, roaring vocals, and fist-to-authority ethos, each Against Me! live show is an incendiary experience.
