London, ON. (Top40 Charts/ Toronto Independent Music Awards) - The Joys, a London, Ontario-based rock act have been Certified Gold by the Canadian Recording Industry Association. The certification was accredited to their self-titled three song single. Track listing: 'Storm', 'Soul On Your Sleeve' and 'Keep Trying to Try'.

The Joys drummer Glen Gamble reflects on receiving the Gold Record: "This award is really cool but more a testament to our fans than anything; they were the ones that made it possible. In this age of downloading and file sharing, it's nice to see a solid fan-base that supports its favorite band and actually BUYS the cd's; my hats off to them!"'

The Joys are a popular, yet still unsigned recording act, that have independently sold over 19,000 CDs at their two hundred plus performances per year. They have been the recipient of several industry awards including 'Best Female Fronted Rock Act' Toronto Independent Music Awards, 'Favorite Pop / Rock Act' at the 2004, 2005,2006 and 2007 London Music Awards, and 'Best Live Act' at the Toronto Independent Music Awards.

The Joys also have songs appearing in a new television series, 'Chris and John To The Rescue', on OUTtv and have licensed a song to the feature film Cake starring Heather Graham, Taye Diggs, and Cheryl Hines from Curb Your Enthusiasm. PlayStation 2 is also using a Joys' song in a commercial playing at the Air Canada Centre during sporting events.

Lead singer for The Joys, Sarah Smith, said, 'Receiving a gold record was a childhood dream come true! It's a moment that I'll always cherish, but I hope it's just the first of many gold records that will line my walls. It's a wonderful injection of motivation at a time when we're about to head back out on the road for an extended period of time."

'The Joys are an entertaining and energetic act and they're receiving industry recognition to complement the fanatical response received by Canadian rock fans from coast to coast', added The Joys' manager, Mark Watson. 'The certification comes at a perfect time as we're shopping the band to labels'.

A Toronto Gold Party and performance will be held Friday February 8th at the Horseshoe Tavern when the band will be presented with the award. The Joys hit the stage at 11:30pm.
