Tupelo, MS. (Top40 Charts/ Perpetual Obscurity Records) - Southern storyteller Paul Thorn will kick off his spring tour with a special Valentine's Day show in his hometown of Tupelo, MS. In the birthplace of Elvis Presley, Thorn will bring his congregation into a rock and roll tent revival, where tales of the bars, trailers, churches and outposts of America's back roads come through in his vivid songs, hilarious on stage yarns and sweaty, bluesy rock and roll. He'll then take the revival on the road, spreading the gospel of his latest album 'A Long Way From Tupelo,' out February 19 on Perpetual Obscurity Records.
Thorn is a Southern renaissance man - son of a Pentecostal preacher who began performing at age 3 at his father's tent revivals, former professional boxer (who once went 7 rounds with Roberto Duran), one time factory worker, folk art painter, sky diving enthusiast, husband, father, and musician - and this wealth of experiences colors his stories with the ring of truth that allows listeners to think that perhaps some of his taller tales might have indeed happened.
Album highlights include 'I'm Still Here,' a wickedly funny fable about feeling lucky to be alive because you weren't on the receiving end of a Chevy's bumper or a 6th grade flunkie, and Paul's personal PSA 'What Have You Done To Lift Somebody Up.' Over rollicking saloon piano lead, Paul weaves a gospel-tinged ode to love in the face of adversity.
