TORONTO, Canada (Nelly Furtado Fans Website) - Nelly Furtado was honoured last night by SOCAN - the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. The songstress received nods for " I'm Like A Bird" and " Turn Off The Light" for achieving the highest number of plays on domestic radio. Furtado's "I'm Like A Bird" along with Barenaked Ladies' "Pinch Me" won International Achievement Awards at the 13th annual event for recognition in a foreign country during 2001. Kardinal Offishall nabbed the urban award for his hip-hop hit, "Money Jane." Meanwhile, Nickelback snagged the Rock Music Award for their song, "How You Remind Me." In other Nickelback news, the group recently postponed a number of U.S. tour dates due to a "minor illness." Meanwhile, netmusiccountdown.com reports that Nickelback's people say there's no truth to the rumours that substance abuse within the band caused the cancellations.
