NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Night World Records) - After several years of work, the first album by Rambling Shadows is now out on Night World Records! The Tools and the Stuff features ten tracks of pure rock for everyones' pleasure. Reactions have included "The Tools and the Stuff is a masterpiece" and "kicks major ass!!!" Rambling Shadows consist of four crusty veterans of the DC music scene: Jay Moglia (formerly of Crippled Pilgrims and Death Camp 2000) on guitars and vocals Scott Wingo (formerly of Crippled Pilgrims, Trenchmouth {DC 1979/80}Trenchmouth {DC 1979/80}, and Salt Diamond Mine) on guitars and vocals Charles Steck (formerly of Velvet Monkeys, High Back Chairs, and Lida Husik) on bass and vocals Tommy Carr (formerly of Black Market Baby and the Penetrators) on drums Jay, Scott, and Charles are the group's longtime core members. They started making music as Rambling Shadows in 1996 along with drummer Davis White (formerly of Lorelei and Foundation). Due to external projects, they suspended operations in 1998 and regrouped in 2003. In early 2005, Davis was replaced with Jamie Parker who graces the drum kit on The Tools and the Stuff. Jamie had formerly played alongside Scott Wingo in an early 90's project called Salt Diamond Mine. Family concerns, including prolonged stays in Taiwan and Japan, led to Jamie's departure in the fall of 2007 shortly after The Tools and the Stuff had been completed. His thoughtful and unique contributions are an integral component to The Tools and the Stuff listening experience, and we fully expect to hear more from him in the future. Rambling Shadows are highly fortunate to have Tommy Carr - a musician they have long admired (and who in fact had sat in with Crippled Pilgrims for a number of shows back in the mid-80's) -now fully settled in their drummer's seat. Tommy has already upped Rambling Shadows' rock quotient to the point that the group now finds itself a serious contender for the highly venerated position of DC's Loudest Band. Night World Records Night World Records is a small co-op label in the DC area run by the eccentric recluse Philip Stevenson. The main thing the bands on this label have in common is that they were recorded at Philip's Scary Clown studio located in Potomac, MD. In addition to being the de facto head of the label, Philip is also one of the label's artists. He writes for Tape Op and brings the sort of sensibility associated with that magazine to his production work. He records with an old Studer 8 track tape machine and has a great ear as a producer, encouraging bands to go for "in-the-room" takes rather than relying on excessive overdubs and studio gadgetry. Though the all-analog process can sometimes be painful when compared with the modern digital "mixes are cheap" approach, in the end, the care and talent behind the Night World method shine through.
