The Independent Television Commission said it had received 13 complaints about "CD:UK", the ITV1 pop music programme aimed at young people, over provocative routines performed by U.S. star Aguilera and Australian teenage singer Holly Valance. Aguilera appeared wearing a particularly skimpy outfit to sing her hit "Dirrty", while Valance was also dressed provocatively. The ITC said it did not find the programme had breached its code but it said it sympathised with viewers' concerns. "Undoubtedly some performers and music videos are more suggestive than in the past, reflecting considerable changes in society with regard to sexual behaviour as well as pop music's inherent 'boundary pushing' nature.
"There will always be some performers who deliberately court controversy for one reason or another," the ITC said, adding it had reminded the show's maker London Weekend Television to be vigilant. LWT said the issue reflected the difficulty it had attracting the most popular performers whilst ensuring the programme was suitable for young people. It added it regularly insisted on changes to lyrics and routines.
