NEW YORK (Z100/Jordan Knight Official Website) - If there is ever an award invented for a solo artist persevering to get to an interview, then it should definitely go to Jordan Knight. The former
New Kids On The Block singer traveled by car with a friend straight through from Miami to New York this week to make it on time to an 8 a.m. ET scheduled radio interview on local top-40 station Z100 (WHTZ) on Wednesday (December 4).
Why didn't Knight simply board an airplane in Miami and fly to New York? The 32-year-old singer "did not have I.D. on him" when he arrived at Miami International Airport on Tuesday (December 3), according to a spokesperson for the singer.
Knight had gone to the Miami airport immediately after his album launch party at the B.E.D. nightclub in the Chesterfield Hotel on Miami Beach Monday evening (December 2). Airline staff would not let him board the plane without presenting a government-issued form of I.D., as is now required by recently heightened security measures.
With little time to spare, Knight and a friend hopped in a car Tuesday morning (December 3) and drove to New York City in approximately 19 hours, arriving on time for the interview Wednesday morning. Knight decided to make the long journey by car because he didn't want to let down fans that had been invited to the radio station's studios to meet him in person, according to the spokesperson.
The interview was to promote Knight's new single, a cover of Force MD's 1986 ballad, "Tender Love," which features a B-side dance remake of the Richard Marx ballad, "Right Here Waiting." Knight said of the single, "'Right Here Waiting' is a combination of Euro, house, and club music, and 'Tender Love' is a sultry beat with an MTV Unplugged feel."
The tracks are the first to be released from Knight's forthcoming, as-yet untitled sophomore solo album. The new set, produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, is expected for release in early 2003 (Jam and Lewis also penned "Tender Love" for Force MD's).
Fans can purchase the "Tender Love"/"Right Here Waiting" single exclusively via Knight's official website (jordanknight.com).
