Los Angeles, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Jensen Reed Official Website) - Alternative-Melodic-Rock- Hip-hop has been used to describe Jensen Reed's innovative flavor of music. Given the number of cookie jars of influence Jensen Reed's hands are in, his fan base is as abundantly diverse as his music. With his melodic hooks, various symphonic sounds and rocking guitar riffs layered over heart-palpitating beats, his music seems to hit the masses like the latest Batman movie.
Having only lived in Southern California for a little over a year, this unsigned LA new-comer is hitting the pavement hard this year, working alongside booking agent and show promoter Sean Healy, and opening up for acts like Evidence from Dilated Peoples at Temple Bar in Santa Monica, and Pigeon John at Knitting Factory in Hollywood. Both of those shows were sold out, and later this month, you can catch him opening up for Little Brother at Key Club on Sunset Blvd. Don't begin to think Jensen Reed's a rookie. He has been in groups since his high-school days in North Carolina, and has played in front of crowds in excess of 4,000 people.
Granted, Jensen is new to the LA hip-hop scene, and he didn't grow up in the ghetto. He's never been shot. And he's never sold drugs to pay the rent. What's refreshing is none of these subjects are the basis of his music, either. His lyrics aren't based on "bitches" and money, or 20-plus inch rims on a car he doesn't own. They are solely based on what he has experienced, the things he knows, and his appreciation for what the world has given him: opportunity. There are so many influences that have played their part in individualistic ways, that Jensen Reed's self-proclaimed "sneaky" style is similar to none. Fast. Slow. Hip-hop. Rock. It's all there.
After learning what his weekly schedule entails, the only conclusion is his work ethic would humble CEOs of major corporations. Having had several shows over the past year, and holding his own in front of the crowds of the aforementioned established artists, Jensen Reed is certainly walking that very thin line between underground artist and the next superstar. Every show is bigger, he is opening for bigger acts, and his performances are following suit. He recently played an A&R showcase at Safari Sam's on Sunset Blvd., and his track "Sunset featuring Lauren Mayhew" was selected for a 10-song A&R compilation disc that will sure find its way into the hands of some important people. The question is, will it fall into yours? The answer is if you are reading this, it already has. Jensen Reed will be performing live with Little Brother on August 29th at Key Club on Sunset Blvd.
