BURBANK, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Warner Bros. Records) -
Idina Menzel has announced a third string of U.S. tour dates in support of I Stand, her debut album for Warner Bros. Records, which was released on January 29th, 2008.
After performing across the country last spring and summer (including special appearances at the 2008 National Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C. and at Andrew Lloyd Webber's Birthday Celebration in London's Hyde Park), Menzel is embarking on a fall series of tour dates beginning October 30th in Cleveland, OH. See below for all confirmed dates. The New York Times wrote of her June show at Manhattan's Town Hall: "The picture of Ms. Menzel that emerged was of an entertainer with a phenomenal voice...Vocally she suggests a robust Diana Ross with 10 times the stamina and lung power."
Produced by Grammy-Award winner Glen Ballard, I Stand is a mix of powerhouse pop tunes and touching balladry written by the Tony-Award winning singer and actress, who is beloved by fans the world over for her rich, soaring voice and knockout star turns in the blockbuster musicals Rent and Wicked. The album's first single, "Brave," has been hailed by Billboard as "ascending to the stratosphere, amid gratifying skyscraping production."
Menzel recently performed at an event for the 500 Most Influential Women in Congress, hosted by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, during the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO. The previous night, Menzel participated in Every Woman Counts, an event sponsored by Lifetime and Rock The Vote that brought together campaign delegates and staff and political leaders to encourage more women to get involved in the political process.
Meanwhile, there has been a lot of activity on Menzel's official website, www.idinamenzel.com, where the star has invited fans to get involved in the "I Stand Movement," which was launched after three fans created a montage of images depicting what they stand for set to Menzel's song "I Stand." Deeply moved by the video, which was posted on YouTube in honor of Menzel's birthday, the singer is now encouraging others to create their own videos showing what they stand for and to share them on her "I Stand" page on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Idina-Menzels-I-Stand-Page/29492957536. Fans may also download a complimentary copy of "I Stand" from Idina's website.
