NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ MTV Tr3s) - MTV Tr3s is turning up the volume on a much-loved genre of
Latino music, Regional Mexican, with the development of three exclusive programs, including the networks' first original "Cribs" with Banda superstar and Fonovisa recording artist
Jenni Rivera from her estate in Corona, California. Jenni will give the MTV Tr3s audience exclusive access to her home, family and life. The show will also feature a top 10 countdown of
Latino cribs with artists such as
Carlos Mencia,
Paulina Rubio and Wilmer Valderrama. "Top 10
Latino Cribs" countdown hosted by Jenni airs on Saturday, November 22nd at 2 PM and 9 PM
Jenni is the leading female artist in the Regional Mexican genre and her new album JENNI debuted at No 1 in the Billboard Latin charts in September. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Jenni's music is heavily influenced by her family's roots in Jalisco and Sonora, Mexico along with her experience as a young Latina who has faced some of life's greater challenges.
"Young Latinos have put Regional Mexican music at the top of the charts and I'm so excited to have a chance to share a little slice of my life with them on MTV Tr3s," said Jenni.
"Regional Mexican music has proven to be equally popular among first-generation young Mexicans and second- and third-generation Mexican-Americans who may speak little Spanish but still feel strongly connected to their parents' music," explains Jesus Lara, Senior Vice President, Music and Talent for MTV Tr3s and MTV/VH1 Latin America. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, the genre accounts for more than 50 percent of all Latin music shipments in the U.S.
"Like the MTV Tr3s audience, fans of Regional Mexican music are young and passionate. Deepening our offering of Regional Mexican music is a direct response to what our viewers are asking for," says, Vice President of Programming and Production, MTV Tr3s. MTV Tr3s has been airing music videos from this genre from artists such as Los Horoscopos de Durango, Los Temerarios, Los Dareyes de la Sierra in the music block "Mix Mex" and has featured guest appearances in several shows by Tigres del Norte and Alejandro Fernandez.
The network also announced two new original series in development for 2009. One is a weekly music show and the other is a reality series based on the life of a superstar Regional Mexican artist.
