BURBANK, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Disney
Music Group) - Demi Lovato's solo recording debut album, Don't Forget, on Disney's Hollywood Records debuts at No 2 on the Billboard Top 200 today selling 88,973 units. The critically acclaimed album features 16-year-old Demi's No 1
Radio Disney single, "Get Back," and its strong debut marks her second ranking this year in the album chart's Top 3 (she leads the soundtrack to the Disney Channel Original Movie "
Camp Rock" which debuted at No 3). Demi's Don't Forget is also the highest debut on this week's Billboard Top 200.
The stellar debut follows a whirlwind summer for the singer/songwriter/musician/actress Demi Lovato. She kicked off the summer starring in the Disney Channel's "Camp Rock" which has now reached over 69.5 million unique viewers in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. In July through early September, she toured with Jonas Brothers on their sold out "Burnin' Up" 2008 summer tour, impressing critics and fans along the way with her powerhouse voice and musical abilities on both piano and guitar. In this week's Entertainment Weekly, the article reports, " ... her album, while full of catchy choruses, abandons the usual tinkly teen-pop tropes for meaty guitars and percussion; raucous lead single 'Get Back' is more Benatar than Backstreet."
Demi wrote or co-wrote all but two of the songs on Don't Forget. With producer John Fields at the helm, Demi teamed up with Jonas Brothers to co-write and co-produce several of the album's 11 songs. Demi recently revealed in an interview she not only has a five year plan, but a 20 year plan, aspiring to star in and direct feature films.
Demi is currently in production of her new Disney Channel Original Series "Sonny with a Chance," a fish-out-of-water comedy in which she plays a Wisconsin teen who moves to L.A. when she's cast in her favorite sketch comedy show for kids and tweens.
