Cornelius, NC (Top40 Charts/ Endless Summer Quarterly) - On Saturday, November 1, 2008, David Beard and Endless Summer Quarterly (ESQ) will present A Celebration of Music, a fundraiser to support the Cornelius Animal Shelter, at Crave the Experience (19930 W Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC). The event will feature musical performances by former Beach Boy David Marks with Nelson Bragg (of the Brian Wilson band). WCNC's Weather Anchor Larry Sprinkle will emcee the event.

The event will feature an intimate listening party for ESQ's 'Dennis Wilson - Only With You' tribute CD, which commemorates the life and music of Dennis Wilson, a founding member of the Beach Boys, who tragically drowned in 1983. The 22-track collection includes performances by Brian Wilson, Carnie Wilson, Carl B. Wilson, David Marks (with Al Jardine), Dean Torrence and the North Carolina-area bands DP2 and Chris English.

A portion of proceeds from the event will support the Cornelius Animal Shelter, a partnership between the Town of Cornelius and a team of local shelter volunteers, in their effort to build a new shelter/adoption facility in North Mecklenburg County. The proposed permanent facility will be located on Meridian Street off Catawba Ave. in Cornelius, NC, at the site of the present temporary structure that serves as the shelter. The town and the volunteers are currently engaged in a capital campaign to raise the funding necessary to construct and operate the permanent facility.

Tickets to the event are $150 for an intimate VIP dinner, $75 for VIP-access admission and $25 for general admission. Tickets are available now on-line at Endless Summer Quarterly's website (www.esquarterly.com), and at Todd's Music and Crave the Experience (both at 19930 W Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC), or from Cornelius Animal Shelter volunteers throughout the Lake Norman community.

VIPs will be admitted at 7:30PM for a wine-and-appetizer mixer with David Marks, Nelson Bragg and the other performers. Autographs and photo opportunities will be available exclusively for VIP ticket buyers. General admission will begin at 8:30PM. Music begins with opening acts Josh Jacobson, DP2 and Chris English & The North Americans. The main event will include David Marks and Nelson Bragg, who will take the stage for an intimate performance. Crave the Experience will feature a special Beach Boys-themed drink and food menu for the event.

ESQ Editor David Beard said: 'This event - A Celebration of Music - promises to be a special evening of entertainment unique to the Lake Norman area. Musicians David Marks and Nelson Bragg are legends in the Beach Boy community. ESQ is excited to include them in our celebration, and I'm excited as a fan of those classic Beach Boy hits. That we are able to partner this event with a truly important cause, raising funds to support the construction of the new Cornelius Animal Shelter, is completely in the spirit of the evening.'

WCNC's Sprinkle agrees: 'This is probably the most unique fund-raiser I've ever participated or been involved with. Here's a chance to do something really special for abandoned and mistreated animals. You have an evening with some great food and wine and then you're in a very intimate setting to witness a performance by a rock 'n' roll pioneer; David Marks was a part of rock 'n' roll history. He was there in the early, early days of the Beach Boys and did it all... performed on stage with them, toured with them, and was on some of their earliest hit records! Hey, I'm ready to sing 'Bah Bah Bah-Bah Barbara Ann' with EVERYBODY that night!!!'

ENDLESS SUMMER QUARTERLY, the world's leading Brian Wilson/Beach Boys/Jan & Dean magazine, was founded in 1987 in San Diego, CA. Since 1993 editor David Beard (and editor emeritus Lee Dempsey) relocated ESQ headquarters to Charlotte, NC, continuing its tradition of taking an honest approach to celebrating the music with historical accuracy. Each quarterly publication offers fans exclusive interviews, previously unpublished and rare images from private collections, music and video reviews, and exclusive CDs available to subscribers of the magazine. ESQ's Dennis Wilson edition - with accompanying complimentary 'Only With You' tribute CD - was previously available only to subscribers, will be available for the first time for purchase at the event. Additionally, ESQ's Fall edition will be on sale exclusively at this event prior to it being sent out to subscribers.

DAVID BEARD is a noted and accomplished Beach Boys/Jan & Dean scholar, known throughout the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean community as an historian who prides himself on accuracy. His work in ESQ has been published nationally. He has served as consultant and image archivist for different Brian Wilson/Beach Boys projects; including consultant for 1998's VH1 special 'Jan & Dean: Behind The Music,' 2002's documentary 'Jan & Dean: The Other Beach Boys,' on A&E's Biography (Arts & Entertainment Network) and the VH1 special 'Glen Campbell: Behind The Music.'

His design credits include work for Beach Boy Al Jardine and Beach Boy David Marks. His production credits include: 2004's Dennis Wilson tribute CD 'One In A Million,' the highly acclaimed Carl Wilson tribute CD 'Under God,' on which Beard co-wrote three recordings, was Executive Producer, Co-producer and artistic director. His most recent projects include new essays in Collectors' Choice Music's Jan & Dean, The Complete Liberty Singles and the Sony Legacy reissue Dennis Wilson: Pacific Ocean Blue - Legacy Edition; and his latest CD compilation in honor of Dennis Wilson, 'Only With You.'

THE CORNELIUS ANIMAL SHELTER is a joint public/private effort by the town of Cornelius and a group of local volunteers. The town provides the land, and animal control officer and a temporary facility consisting of a concrete platform supporting a limited number of enclosed dog pens and stacked cat cages. The temporary facility has no hot water, heating or air-conditioning, and is poorly designed for long term needs. Dedicated volunteers maintain the temporary shelter and perform support functions such as off-site adoptions and fundraising. The permanent facility will feature separate cat and dog intake, isolation areas, an examination room, onsite laundry, a feeding facility, adoption rooms, and grooming areas. The new facility will enable expanded adoption hours and the initiation of animal wellness programs to include full exam, all vaccinations, and identification micro-chipping. The new facility will fulfill a long-held dream for local volunteers and animal advocates.

DAVID MARKS began playing music with his neighbors, the Wilson brothers, in 1958 when he was 10 years old, eventually developing their own unique hybrid of surf instrumentals and Chuck Berry influenced Rock & Roll. In 1962, Capitol Records acquired a demo recording of the songs 'Surfin' Safari' and '409' performed by Brian, Dennis and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and neighbor David Marks, which upon release became a massive national hit. Over the course of the next two years, The Beach Boys would evolve into America's top rock act as well as experiencing a steadily growing international fame. In only 18 months they recorded four classic studio albums that included some of rock music's most beloved anthems such as 'Surfin' Safari,' 'Surfin' USA,' 'Catch a Wave,' 'Surfer Girl,' 'In My Room,' '409,' 'Shut Down,' 'Little Deuce Coupe' and 'Be True to Your School.'

In late 1963, at the age of 15 years, Mr. Marks walked away from the Beach Boys at the very height of their initial wave of success. He went on to record solo material for A&M, Warner Brothers, Imperial and Dot Records all before he was 21 years old. Two of his post Beach Boys bands, David Marks and the Marksmen, and The Moon, enjoy significant cult followings today and are especially popular among the 1960's era collectors and music aficionados. David later studied jazz and classical composition and guitar at some of the finest music schools in Boston and had a successful career as a respected Los Angeles based studio musician. When not in the studio, Mr. Marks performs with Beach Boy Al Jardine and Dean Torrence, the Surf City All Stars, as well as with his own band.

NELSON BRAGG is a drummer-percussionist-singer-songwriter-producer-arranger who plays with the Brian Wilson Band, The Quarter After, The Now People, The Mello Cads, Carolyn Edwards, Jeff Merchant and has played and recorded with The Tyde, Stew, Cloud Eleven, and The Mockers. It was after recording at Wondermints' studio and auditioning for a Byrds tribute band led by Andrew Gold and Jeffrey Foskett that Nelson appeared on The Brian Wilson Band radar. In 2003 Nelson was hired for the Smile project, joining the band on percussion and vocals. Recording and touring with Brian Wilson for the next four years inspired Nelson to release a solo CD Day Into Night, (Side B Music) to much critical acclaim. The CD came out in 2007.

LARRY SPRINKLE is the weather anchor for WCNC's weekday morning newscast on NBC. Mr. Sprinkle is a longtime veteran of broadcasting, and is involved in the community with a number of charities. He has received many awards for his charity work, including the "Humane Citizen Award" for years of work with the Humane Society and the Animal Shelter. Mr. Sprinkle's longtime appreciation of the Beach Boys and his advocacy on behalf of animal welfare makes him a natural choice to serve as emcee of ESQ's A Celebration of Music.

CRAVE THE EXPERIENCE (19930 W Catawba Ave, Cornelius, NC) is one of Lake Norman's newest dining destinations. Located just 12 miles north of Charlotte off of Interstate 77 at exit 28, the restaurant serves fresh and hearty food that is both health-conscious and delicious. The outdoor patio contains a full-size performance stage, featuring local and regional musical talent. Crave the Experience's theme of 'food, fame and fun' will be on full display November 1 with ESQ's A Celebration of Music.
