(Top40 Charts/ Universal Motown Records) - Q-TIP, one of hip-hop's greatest originals and defining figures, promises to pursue nothing less than 'THE RENAISSANCE' of hip-hop music and culture, with the release of his first Universal Motown solo album physically in-stores November 4, 2008 and available digitally now due to the overwhelming demand from the online community.
'The online demand to hear the new Q-Tip album was so high that we worked with all of our digital retail partners (ie iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3, Walmart MP3, MySpace Music, Napster) to make the album available for purchase to their consumers before the planned street date. His opening shot comes in the thick, hypnotic Seventies-inspired soul beat and persuasive come-hither entreaty of 'Gettin' Up,' the digital single now available for download on iTunes and Amazon.com. The video, directed by Ben Dickinson, has already been streamed well over 400,000 times on Youtube. The primarily self-produced album finds the 'Renaissance' man joined in guest spots by creative peers including Raphael Saadiq, Norah Jones and D'Angelo. The November 4th release day chosen for 'THE RENAISSANCE' coincides with a moment imbued both with history and with the long-sought promise of change.
As a member of A Tribe Called Quest, Grammy award winner, Q-Tip, changed and advanced both the sound and the lyrical agenda of rap, recording with the group a string of five classic gold and platinum albums over eight years. He diverse sound has spawned collaborations over the past five years with artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Pharell, Sergio Medes, and The Chemical Brothers. Q-Tip closed the Nineties with his first gold-certified solo album Amplified, the crossover smash 'Vivrant Thing' and collaborations with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, REM, Missy Elliott and Lucy Pearl.
