Perth, AU. (Top40 Charts/ Best Act Ever) - BestActEver.com is a large group of online fans for 80's pop star Rick Astley (of Rickrolling fame) who have been running a very successful campaign in an attempt to win the Best Act Ever award for Rick Astley. They currently have lodged more than 500 million votes, with a goal of having 728 million votes completed before the end of the competition. That's one vote for every man, woman and child in Europe. There were a total of 78 million votes at the 2007 MTV European Music Awards, so the staff at BestActEver.com are more than convinced that Rick is a shoe-in to win this particular award. Rickrolling is an Internet meme involving the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The basis behind it is that of a bait and switch: a person provides a Web link they claim is relevant to the topic at hand, but the link actually takes the user to the Astley video. The URL can be masked or obfuscated in some manner so that the user cannot determine the true source of the link without clicking (and thus satisfying their curiosity). When a person clicks on the link given and is led to the web page he/she is said to have been "Rickrolled". By extension, it can also mean playing the song loudly in public in order to be disruptive. There have been many attempts to create large scale Rickrolls, the largest of which was done by YouTube on April 1st in the UK where they redirected all the links on their homepage to copies of Rick Astley's No 1 hit, "Never Gonna Give You Up" The MTV European Music Awards will be held on November 6th BestActEver.com is a collaborative effort between many Rick Astley fans who sincerely want to see him win an award he truly deserves. Its primary goal is to see Rick Astley win the Best Act Ever Award at MTV's European Music Awards and to also see Rick performing live at the event, effectively "rickrolling" the world For more information, you can visit https://www.bestactever.com or contact Mark Lancaster at voterick08 @ bestactever.com
