NEW YORK (CNet) - It looks like file-sharing service Kazaa may soon suffer the fate of Napster before it.
On Friday a US federal judge gave record companies and movie studios permission to sue Kazaa's parent company, Sharman Networks Ltd..

A request to dismiss a copyright infringement lawsuit due to the fact that Kazaa is based in Australia was denied opening the door the entertainment industry to take aim at the latest tool for the public to download music, movies and TV shows for free.
According to the plaintiffs, Kazaa currently services an estimated 21 million US users.
