LOS ANGELES, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Mighty Loud Records) - Thanks to Tim Shanks, aka 'Angry Tim,' one of the two lead singers and lead guitarist in the Tampa Bay based powerhouse band 16 Second Stare (www.16secondstare.com), our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are getting ready to rock!
Shanks partnered with Universal/Fontana Distribution & Mighty Loud Records to send overseas 10,000 copies of Red Carpet Material, the band's blistering, critically acclaimed debut CD. These have been distributed free of charge to military personnel serving their country as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Camp Victory) and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).
The CDs were put into care packages that were distributed by AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) to be distributed to the troops around the world, which includes AAFS locations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
'All parties involved simply wanted to show support for US troops and thank them for the sacrifices they endure for the nation and the world,' says Shanks.
Red Carpet Material is currently available via the band's website and at all the major online retail sites, including iTunes and Amazon.
The band is currently planning their first major multi-city tour in early 2009. This expansion builds on their tradition of local gigs at Tampa's The Green Parrot and the many informal jams they've had. 16 Second Stare has also been doing local benefit shows for non-profit organizations like the American Cancer Association.
Red Carpet Material is also snagging fans across the country thanks to rock radio airplay for two of the collection's most fiery cuts, the title track and 'Ballad of Billy Rose.' While the Detroit born and raised Shanks wraps his whiskey drawl around tracks like the passionate closing ballad 'Goodbye,' 'Ballad Of Billy Rose' and 'Red Carpet Material' are sung by 16SS's 'other' lead singer, Muscle Shoals, Alabama native Todd Pettus.
Together with producer and bassist Miguel Gonzalez (who has worked with Brian Howe of Bad Company and Matt Kramer of Saigon Kick), and the insanely charming and groove intensive drummer Chris 'Beano' Davis, Shanks and Pettus lead listeners through a twisted maze of unpredictable riffs, mixing substantive modern rock with old fashioned rock and roll.
