LOS ALTOS, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Peninsula Symphony) - The Peninsula Symphony is thrilled to announce that the Peninsula Arts Council will bestow its 7th Annual Diamond Award to Peninsula Symphony
Music Director and Conductor Mitchell Sardou Klein. The Diamond Awards recognize outstanding contributions to the arts made by individual artists, educators, volunteers, foundations, corporations, donors, or by government support in San
Mateo County, and will be presented Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Redwood Shores Public Library. Maestro Klein will be receiving the Individual Artist award.
'This is a great honor,' said Maestro Mitchell Sardou Klein, 'and especially during our 60th season. I've been immensely proud over the years to have welcomed some of the most amazing artists from all over the world-and right here at home-in engaging concert events for the Peninsula community, and I'm looking forward to continuing that tradition for many years to come.'
The Peninsula Symphony has had only two musical directors in its entire history, and with the arrival of Klein in the 1985-86 season, the Peninsula Symphony grew from a grassroots ensemble to a polished 100-plus member orchestra of well-trained community musicians, performing for over 10,000 people annually, with acclaimed performances at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center, the Fox Theatre in Redwood City, and the Flint Center in Cupertino. Maestro Klein has previously won the 2000 ASCAP Award, the Bravo Award, the Julie Billiart Award, and others.
Says Peninsula Symphony Board Chair Dick Bennett: 'Our Maestro has been described as a 'conductor with an infectious exuberance, one that transfers to the performers and the audience.' We couldn't be more proud of the fact that his role has been acknowledged in this way.'
The next Peninsula Symphony concerts are Flamenco with Angel Romero this Friday, January 16 at the Fox Theater in Redwood City and Saturday, January 17 at the Flint Center in Cupertino. The evening features the legendary guitarist performing the beloved concerto, Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, plus a sizzling performance by dance company Brisas de Espana.
