Chicago, IL. (Top40 Charts/
Dizzy Records) - The Toronto-based rock group best known for its hit segue single "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide" has at long last spoken. For the first time, original band members tell the story of The Kings' rise from obscurity to working with a top music producer and landing a major U.S. record deal.
Told via candid interviews with the band, the story details how an accidental listen during one of its early recording sessions turned into a chart-topping single produced by renowned Pink Floyd and Kiss producer Bob Ezrin. The Kings' subsequent signing with Elektra Records led to extensive live tours, as well as a spot on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and major exposure for the unknown rockers.
Said Lead Singer/Bassist/Songwriter David Diamond: "Millions of music lovers around the world know our massive hit "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide", but relatively few know the story of our struggle before we were signed by a major record label." Guitar Player/Songwriter Mister Zero adds: "In this new DVD documentary, we definitely have a rock and roll tale to tell."
"The Kings: Anatomy of a One-Hit Wonder", produced by Dizzy Records, combines over 40 minutes of rare, never-before-seen documentary footage including The Kings describing their disastrous first U.S. show in Denver when they opened for Jeff Beck. An incredible new music video version of "Beat/Switchin'" and 14 other music videos from the bands' early days and live shows of today were produced exclusively for the DVD.
"This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide" spent six months on the Billboard Hot 100 and was selected as one of the Top 100 U.S. Radio Programmers Picks of the Decade by Album Network Magazine. Billboard declared The Kings to have "more gut and fire than Cheap Trick," while Esquire called 'Switchin' to Glide' "a bit o' pop heaven."
