New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Jazz At Lincoln Center) - Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates the 50th anniversary of two seminal albums: Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and John Coltrane's Giant Steps with music director Mulgrew Miller leading his trio consisting of Ivan Taylor on bass and Rodney Green on drums. In the first half of this concert event, saxophonist Ted Nash debuts newly arranged solos from Giant Steps, joined on stage by tenor saxophonist George Garzone and fellow Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra saxophonists Walter Blanding and Sherman Irby. In the second half, the Mulgrew Miller Trio is joined by a cappella masters Take 6 for a new interpretation of Kind of Blue. Jimmy Cobb, the legendary drummer from both albums will perform on each set.

Free pre-concert lecture: JLCO saxophonist and arranger Ted Nash talks with Jazz at Lincoln Center's Ken Druker about crafting the highly original arrangements for this unique concert. Nightly lecture is free and open for ticketholders in the Irene Diamond Education Center at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, 7 p.m.

When: February 12-14, 2009, 8 p.m.

Where: Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, NY

"I'm really looking forward to my collaboration with Take 6 in honoring two of the most important figures in Jazz - Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Our combined backgrounds in Gospel and Blues should make our exploration of the music very interesting. We want to go to the deepest places in their music and capture some of the spirit, beauty and emotion in a fresh way. So many people today feel disillusioned, afraid and uncertain about their future. We want people to come away from these performances feeling hopeful, uplifted, renewed and perhaps inspired," says Mulgrew Miller music director for the event.
