New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - The second single from Jar-e's forthcoming 'Chicas Malas' (Exotic Recordings 2/24), "An Idea," blends bright Fender Rhodes tones and driving horns to create a seemingly sunny love song, but Asheville-based singer-songwriter Jon Reid admits it's also about growing up and coming to terms with crippling nostalgia.

The song came to Reid one evening alone in a bar while visiting his parents in Virginia Beach. He expected to run into somebody he used to know, but instead found himself surrounded by strangers, and found himself deeply longing for times (and friends) past.

With no paper or pen on hand, he began text messaging these lyrics to himself: "See these people trying to keep their cool / all the while they think that I'm the fool. / A lesser man would fold his hand and let them make the rules." When he returned home to check his messages and finish the song, this is what came out: https://www.shorefire.com/media/An_Idea_20090212_134505.mp3

The song's chorus sounds a wry but upbeat note about getting around the 'rules' in life: "They're in love with ideas/ and I'm in love with you."

The 'Chicas Malas' CD will Release party is February 28 at the Rocket Club in Asheville, NC and March 2 at NYC's Nublu. Jar-e play a slew of shows with Toubab Krewe in March, bringing a warm blend of soul and Caribbean beats down the Florida coast.
