BARCELONA, SPAIN (Top40 Charts/ By Veronica Skelton/ San Francisco) -
Mobile World Congress 2009 - Gracenote today announced the availability of MusicID 2, a multi-modal music exploration application for mobile that combines music identification, advanced search and rich content with a deep integration to commerce. The new music exploration application provides a complete and customizable entertainment and commerce solution for handset manufacturers and mobile content providers, who can now easily offer richer mobile music experiences to consumers.
Available now on more than 30 AT&T handsets with plans for expansion, MusicID 2 allows consumers to find the music they want by simply holding their phone up to music playing nearby, or by entering an artist or track name, or even a line from the lyrics. Based on any of these inputs, the MusicID 2 application returns deep and rich information including full lyrics. Users can then instantly access the full track or ring tone, and get recommendations for other relevant music through direct linking to the AT&T MEdia Mall and Napster Mobile. Additionally, users can easily share all the information on the new songs they have identified through SMS connectivity and dynamically generated targeted WAP pages.
AT&T customers with a supported handset can sign up for a three-day free trial of MusicID 2 through the AT&T MEdia Mall or by texting ID2 to 7299.
The MusicID 2 application is made possible through a combination of the market-leading mobile content, technology, and application design capabilities of Gravity Mobile, whose customers include AT&T, Verizon, Major League Baseball.com, Pandora, and others. Gravity Mobile integrates with Gracenote's rich Mobile Music Platform, a complete solution for music recognition, search, and discovery with services that can be tailored to fit the specific needs of customers. Gracenote's Mobile MusicID, the industry standard in identification, categorization and organization of digital music, leverages the company's Global Media Database of more than 90 million tracks, which is accessed by more than 200 million users annually.
Gracenote recently acquired Gravity Mobile, whose expertise in consumer-facing application development combined with Gracenote's abilities in media technologies, network services and enriched content make the two companies uniquely positioned to deliver this comprehensive solution to handset makers and carriers. Over the past five years, Gravity Mobile is responsible for many award winning innovations, including pioneering music recognition as a mobile application.
"Gracenote is committed to providing leading solutions to the mobile arena, and now the world's most advanced mobile music exploration application is available on AT&T," said Jim Hollingsworth, senior vice president sales and marketing, Gracenote. "As mobile devices continue to become primary sources of information and entertainment, this solution greatly enhances the mobile music experience for users and creates new revenue opportunities for carriers."
