NEW YORK, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Orchard) - The Orchard (NASDAQ: ORCD), a global leader in music and video entertainment, announced today that Nielsen Soundscan has officially certified gold the single 'Krazy' by Pitbull, featuring Lil Jon. As of January 2009, digital sales for the single exceeded 500,000 units.
Pitbull was originally signed to TVT Records and was acquired by The Orchard via TVT's bankruptcy proceedings in 2008. After purchasing Pitbull's artist contract in the bankruptcy, The Orchard worked to reconstitute the contract and get the multi-genre talent back into the ears of his fans after a lengthy hiatus.
Released by The Orchard on September 30, 2008, in conjunction with a multi-faceted campaign driven by the Orchard's integrated marketing team, and supported by Orchard investment in Team Pitbull's outside radio promotion, 'Krazy' shot to No. 19 on Billboard's hot digital tracks and No. 33 on Billboard's Hot 100. With a catchy hook, heavily synchronized sound and guest vocals by Lil Jon, the track quickly became a staple in the Latin, hip-hop and dance music scene by late October. On iTunes, the single snared No.1 in Latin sales, No. 4 in hip-hop sales, and No. 16 in overall sales. The accompanying music video also received heavy rotation on YouTube, amassing more than five million views. And, sales and views continue to grow. The singles 'Go Girl' and 'The Anthem,' by Pitbull, have also been certified gold.
The Orchard employed an aggressive release campaign comprised of a series of digital marketing initiatives, including media buys across leading music and social media sites and several interactive online video promotions to reach targeted audiences. Additionally, aided by the direction of The Orchard, Pitbull's heavy radio rotation combined with his online presence helped further establish him as a savvy artist in an ever-evolving music landscape.
'The success of 'Krazy' demonstrates that new models, partners and approach for mainstream, commercially successful artists can work,' said Greg Scholl, president and chief executive of The Orchard. 'Pitbull chose to partner with The Orchard, we threw our support behind a great song, and together, we are enjoying the fruits of our labor. We will continue to be extremely supportive of Pit's growth as an artist and entertainer and expect that 'Krazy' will be the spark that re-ignites the career of a future global superstar.'
'The Orchard is the future. They know what they're doing, they deliver on their commitments, and they are music people. Check back soon, cause this song's going platinum,' said Pitbull.
