NEW YORK (Rolling Stones Fans Website) - The Rolling Stones are to perform in Bombay after the state government promised to ease its high entertainment tax. The band will become the first international music act to play in India's financial capital for nine years with a concert scheduled for April. The Stones had planned to miss out Bombay - also known as Mumbai - because of a heavy tax levied by the Maharashtra government. The last western artist to perform there was Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams in 1994. The Stones have another Indian show planned in Bangalore, as well as two dates in China, as part of their Licks world tour. At least 1,000 tonnes of the band's equipment is being sent to India in a specially-chartered Boeing 747 freight plane. An entourage of 145 people will travel with the group during the Asian leg of their shows.
