SAN DIEGO, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Pacific Coast Jazz) - San Diego-based independent record label, Pacific Coast Jazz (PCJ), announces the signing of contemporary guitarist, Ronny Smith. The agreement anticipates the release of his new CD, Just Groovin, slated for a street date of May 18, 2009.

"The addition of Ronny Smith adds a new dimension to our jazz roster in that he's our first guitarist," says Donna Nichols, founder and president of Pacific Coast Jazz. "His previous works have made good in-roads on the jazz charts and his Wes Montgomery-like sound is very appealing." Nichols' label will provide publicity efforts in a nation-wide campaign and has teamed up with radio promoter Neal Sapper at New World N'Jazz for access to radio promotion.

Ronny's energetic new album, Just Groovin, shows his love for rhythmic grooves that are primarily what drives the compositions on his latest project. One cannot help but hear fragments of Wes Montgomery and George Benson within these fluid melodies. In his search for the perfect groove, Ronny began listening and inundating himself with a variety of smooth jazz recordings. According to Smith, "No matter what the harmony or melody of the song, each one had its own distinctive and enjoyable groove." Just Groovin captures the spicy flavor of each composition while maintaining the individual sound carefully crafted from Ronny's imaginative spirit.

Besides Smith's skillful guitar work, the instrumentation on Just Groovin includes: Alan Alexander (keyboards/piano), Jeff Knoettner (keyboards/piano), Karl McNeil (bass), Sam Bates (bass), Vernell Mincey (drums), Scott Martin (sax), Stan Martin (Trumpet), and Andy Martin (trombone). Ronny Smith revels in the exploration and growth of each musical project and Just Groovin is a substantial part of that journey.

Pacific Coast Jazz, founded in 2003, is a boutique jazz label that also offers music management services and international distribution through their partner MVD Audio/Big Daddy Music.
