LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Distiller Records) - Sparrow and the Workshop release their debut single 'Devil Song' / 'The Cold-Hearted Twist' on May 11, 2009 through Distiller Records. A six track short player (longer than an EP but shorter than a long player) entitled 'Sleight of Hand' will follow on May 25th.
The band are a Scottish/ Welsh/ American three piece who are based in Glasgow, they formed in the dew of January 2008, under the heavy fog of yeast from the Tennents Factory.
Their style can be described as alt/folk with a slight country twist. They have a joyful way with songwriterly story telling and have received various accolades already, including being invited to perform on Huw Stephens Radio One Introducing show. Also they have been featured on various radio stations including 6music, XFM and BBC Scotland.
They play a stripped-down drum kit, a crashbox, a very white bass, a smallish acoustic guitar, a mellow yellow electric slide guitar and occasionally an old French violin alongside female/male vocal duets.
After supporting British Sea Power at their own 'Sing Ye from the Hillsides' Festival last year, they were then invited to play a string of dates with them across the country.
Sparrow and the Workshop are touring around the UK in their own customised camper van and will be playing the following dates; a full tour and more festival shows will be announced shortly.
