LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ by Jenny McCarthy - Staff Writer) - RECORD OF THE WEEK
Depeche Mode - Wrong: The new single "Wrong" is classic Depeche Mode! Nothing shocking, nothing new, but really good. The video on the other hand is amazing. It was directed by Patrick Daughters, known for his memorable work on videos by Feist (1,2,3,4) and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Maps).
It is a fantastic premier for the eagerly awaited "Sounds of the Universe" album. It is an excellent track with fantastic lyrics that will become lodged in your head for days to come. Very different from their usual singles but certainly worth owning!

HOT SHOT RECORD
Zarif - Let Me Back: Having seen her at last year's RISE Festival in Finsbury Park, all I can say is Joss Stone eat your heart out! Zarif's very good live and for most of you who may not know her, she supported Chris Brown (reserve whatever judgement you have of him!) during most of his tour. I've been counting the days for 'Let Me Back' TBR.
Let Me Back is the debut single by singer/songwriter Zarif. It is written by Zarif, produced by Utters, with additional production by Tommy D who has worked with Kanye West and Corinne Bailey-Rae. It features a sample from the song "I'm Sorry Babe" by Kokomo
She's already debuted on Radio 2, keep an eye on her!

Basshunter - Walk On Water: Basshunter, all his music sounds the same and at least it's in English language. Nonetheless, the video is awesome! 'Walk On Water' features exactly the same Eurodance sound as its predecessors. The melody and lyrics, meanwhile, err on the simple and effective side, with Basshunter trilling a "la la la" hook over his customary throbbing beats. Still, 'Walk On Water' ticks all the right boxes to become a weekend anthem for many an alcopop-loving clubbers...

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal: The Foxes are indeed slyly splendid - full of cunning, lithe movement and ingenuity. With a brevity that belies its depth, 'Water Winter Hymnal' is a singular nugget of opening harmonies seguing into a soaring, circling and spacious song. If their contemporaries only the enigmatic Midlake and My Morning Jacket at their most fragile come close, but neither could have cooked up the Beach Boys spiritual of "White Winter Hymnal." It'sjust a shifting folky single with its kettle drums and beautiful campfire harmonies.

Faithless feat Cass Fox - Music Matters: Pulling out all the stops for this mammoth occasion, Toolroom have signed the single 'Music Matters' by the legendary Faithless which features the vocal talents of Cass In the creative hub of their Maidstone HQ, Toolroom are responsible for many of todays club 'anthems' and have now reached their monumental 100th release. The uplifting "Music Matters" (with Cass Fox) is marred by mawkish lyrics which will undoubtedley be a huge sucess!

Franz Ferdinand - No You Girls: Franz at their best, with catchy hooks and sharp boy-girl lyrics featuring a neat perspective shift in the last verse. The result? You may feel like you've heard this all before, but you won't mind hearing it again. No You Girls is a very cool and a livelier track than the first two and sounds more like FF of old than what we've heard from this album so far. The guitar mid-section really, really went right back to early FF and I loved it.

James Morrison - Please Don't Stop The Rain: IOt is the third single from James Morrison's platinum-selling second album Songs For You, Truths For Me doesn't stray too far from the template of his previous releases. In reality, it owes more to the earnest style of James Blunt than the pure, often magical universal accessibility of Coldplay, but there's certainly plenty of charisma and lots of emotion.

Lady Sovereign - So Human: The song is very good and it uses the sample from the theme from The Smoking Room 'Close To Me' by The Cure is well done; This is perfect for a song essentially all about having a really rubbish time of it and losing your temper and getting a bit "tired and emotional" and then having a big cry and feeling better. The video goes perfectly with this song and Lady Sov looks great in the video.

Lasgo - Out Of My Mind: 'Out of my Mind' is the dance trio Lasgo's ninth single. Lasgo is a trio of dance music musicians from Belgium. The group formed in 2000 and is composed of Jelle Van Dael as the vocalist, (after Evi Goffin left the band in 2008) and Peter Luts and Dave McCullen as the producers. With a great voice, this track is missing the hard beat we are used to with Lasgo. Still diggin it and I'll be checking out the upcoming remixes. Very energetic song that will keep your feet moving...

Sons Of Albion - Take A Look / Castles In The Sky: London-based rock act Sons of Albion are about to make their stateside debut. Although barely 18 months old as a band, they've already played their brand of fiery hard rock at some of The UK's biggest festivals, like T in the Park and Virgin's V Festival, as well as opening for acts like Velvet Revolver, Lenny Kravitz, and The Who. Mixing a modern hard rock sound that's draw comparison to bands like Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Rage Against The Machine - delivered with an attitude Esquire dubs "old school swagger" - Sons Of Albion make songs that quiver with energy and explode with a wall of wailing guitars and thundering drums. The double A-side of "Take A Look" and "Castles In The Sky" is available as a 7" single - in red Vinyl!
