NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Jana Peri Official Website) - 'I don't care what's on the charts / I only know what's in my heart / And all I really wanna do is rock' -Jana Peri, 'I Wanna Rock'!
NYC rocker JANA PERI will hold a special premiere screening of the new music video for her song, 'I Wanna Rock,' at Manitoba's bar in NYC Thursday, June 18, 2009. The event is from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and is open to the public. The video, directed by Chip Mauro, features footage from PERI's most recent UK tour. Following the premiere, it will be available for viewing online at www.janaperi.com, as well as other sites including YouTube.com.
In 2005, singer/songwriter/guitarist JANA PERI, along with musicians Jacob Callis (bass guitar/background vocals) and John D. Soos (drums/background vocals) went on a tour of the UK to promote the release of her CD, Catching Flies With Vinegar, which was produced by Daniel Rey, best known for his work with seminal NY punk band, The Ramones. PERI and her band played in a variety of cities and venues, ranging from famous rock clubs to off-the-beaten-track country pubs. Throughout the tour, they traveled with American videographer, Chip Mauro. The band struck an instant rapport with Mauro when it was revealed he had been a drummer before turning his sights to video production.
The rock 'n' roll excitement and fun that PERI and her travel companions experienced is artfully captured by Mauro in the music video for 'I Wanna Rock,' which features shots from a live performance at Fibbers in York and footage of the band carousing at Stonehenge, as well as in the back of their tour van. 'The tour was a blast and I wanted the video to convey that feeling,' says Mauro. PERI explains, 'Had we known at the time that we were going to be making a music video, the result would not have been as spontaneous. For example, there's a close-up of me singing with lipstick on my teeth, which is hilarious. Chip was just shooting what he thought was interesting. He has a fantastic eye and because he's a musician, as well as an experienced editor, he instinctively knew how to turn the raw footage into a vehicle for illustrating the essence of the song.'
'I Wanna Rock' is the closing track on Catching Flies With Vinegar (which also features the song, 'Go Ahead,' that was included on the 2004 International Pop Overthrow - Volume 7 compilation on power pop and melodic rock label, Not Lame). Catching Flies With Vinegar is the follow-up to PERI's critically acclaimed, self-titled debut EP, which contained 'Dating Sucks' (the song that ROCKRGRL Magazine chose for the lead track on its Discoveries 2004 compilation) and also 'The La La Song' (a song inspired by her travels in England). PERI also shot a music video for that song while on a short solo electric tour of the UK in 2004. The highlight of the tour was a performance at Liverpool's legendary Cavern Club that features prominently in the video. Having been so well-received by UK audiences, she expects to return once again in 2010, armed with new songs.
Manitoba's, located at 99 Avenue B in NYC's East Village (phone: 212-982-2511), is the quintessential rock 'n' roll bar, owned by Handsome Dick Manitoba, lead singer of punk band, The Dictators. 'Having my video premiere at Manitoba's just makes sense, says PERI. I feel right at home there and the environment perfectly reflects the spirit of 'I Wanna Rock.''
