New York (Top40 Charts/ New End Theatre) - Paul Roberts of The Stranglers will appear in THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK at the New End Theatre 5 August - 13 September. Paul, who was the lead singer of renowned British punk band The Stranglers from 1990 to 2006 has been known throughout his career for this genre of music, has turned back to a form of music closer to his heart. 'I grew up with this music, then ran away to the circus and came back to it' says Paul 'These songs work every time. Each one of them is magical' Featuring the music of composers such as Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rogers and Hammerstein and Rogers and Hart, made famous by legendary artists such as Tony Bennett, Nat 'King" Cole, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald and "The Rat Pack". Paul will be joined by fellow performers Ray Caruana and Louisa Parry. Paul Roberts was the lead singer of The Stranglers until 2006. Paul joined The Stranglers in 1990 appearing on and co-writing their studio albums Strangler in the Night, About Time, Written in Red, Coup de Grace, Norfolk Coast and Suite 16. With his current banc Soulsec Paul has released Faith, Self Discovery, The Pressure Sensitive and End Games. His theatre work includes; Pop Larkin in Darling Buds of May: The Musical (The King's Theatre, Southsea), Ovid in The Art of Love, Mephistopheles Smith (Edinburgh Festival 2007) The Unimportant History of Britain. Paul also appeared in the award-winning BBC drama Cranford.
