Jason Cook was born in Los Angeles, California. He is the estranged son of a bassist with the veteran R&B vocal group The Whispers. By the time he was nine, he was already writing his own verses at the bus stop. Honing his God-given talents throughout his adolescence, Jase's music, and his knack for songwriting, proved to be, not only his passion, but his therapy as well. Having enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 from 2002-2006, Jase exported his MC abilities to Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany.
From sharing his skills with fellow officers and soldiers, Jase linked up with Hustlemann C.E.O., Tyrone " Boss Gump Montgomery, and C.F.O., Christopher Herman of what would later become known as Hustlemann Records. Through multiple performances abroad, Jase profiled in the military news publication Stars & Stripes and Danger Foward as the Hustlemann movement perked attention in 2004-2006, including interest from Sony Records Europe.
The focus moved stateside, as Jase relocated from Atlanta to Orlando, Florida to pursue his rap dreams.' My last CD Troublesome 08: Tha Life was driven off of the music with accounts of the military party life as well as a proverbial day-in-the-life combat testimony that ends in death." The music was digitally distributed and independently sold 15,000 units worldwide. It was the spark that Jason needed to get his career going full blast.
Jase then caught interest in the eyes of Slip N Slide Records acquiring an artist development deal. After that fell through he later that year connected with Oscar Sanchez, CEO of indie powerhouse Affluent Records NYCNo 1 Urban Digital Label in which Oscar signed Hustlemann Records to a marketing and distribution deal in June 2009. He is now in the studio to perfect his new album called "Tha High". 'I don't record songs for the army,' says Jase of his music.
'I don't put too much focus on it. That's part of me of course; I use that in there. [But] I try to make sure there's a purpose behind every song' Jase delivers the kind of album that rap fans have lately come to embrace. But with his sweetened medicine and unique life experiences, Cook has a lot to prove.
'The rap industry requires a fight, a dedication and a determination for success, and who better to be engaged in that battle than this lifelong military veteran soldier?" "Tha High" is tentatively set to hit stores October 2009.
