New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - "In a way maybe we come at it from opposite sides of the same lens. Me from folk with the edge of rock and him as a rock star with an appreciation for folk," says Amy Speace of the legendary British rocker from Mott the Hoople, Ian Hunter. Speace will return to NYC for a solo performance opening for Hunter on July 23rd at City Winery (9pm, 155 Varick St at Vandam St.). Though the two won't perform together, they did duet on Speace's album 'The Killer in Me' (out now on Judy Collins's Wildflower Records). Speace toured with Hunter in the UK this past winter and says he decided to make the rare guest appearance on her album after tossing back a few. "I'd hang with Ian and his band after the show sharing pints and one night Ian said 'you're not one of those wispy folky girls. You've got ...' and he raised his arm into a fist." The Washington Post (DC) said, "listening to Speace's music is akin to sipping wine with a good friend and sharing secrets" (6.12.09) making City Winery an appropriate setting to fully enjoy her "velvety, achy voice" (NPR.org, 6.12.09) and "poetic lyrics" (More Magazine, July/Aug 2009).
