LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ WCE Records) - Long before Malina Moye's 'Diamonds & Guitars' upcoming digital record release on 8-18-09, this quadruple threat anomaly has caused quite a frenzy during her recent performances. At Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute concert to the late
Michael Jackson in late June, artists on deck after Moye were delayed due to the stampede of fans trying to get pictures and autographs from the southpaw guitarist as she was leaving the stage. After Moye's electrifying set at Atlantic City's House of Blues, "One more song' and 'more, more, more" rang through the largest Blues hall in the country where she was supporting
Robin Thicke.
"It was phenomenal. She nailed it," says one HOB staff member. "I've been working here for years and have never seen a reaction to a support act like that."
'When Malina is on stage its like watching Johnny Guitar Watson, Prince, James Brown, Diana Ross, Sly Stone, and Michael Jackson all rolled in one,' says Philly native Maggie Cho outside the House of Blues.
Another fan came to the Jersey show after following Malina on Myspace and other social networks online. "She's mind blowing," he said. 'We get amped when she's on stage.'
Perhaps the systematic grass roots work ethic-city by city-is paying off. In August, Victoria Secret will be featuring Moye in the national boutique's wildly popular 'Life is Pink Campaign.' She will also be featured on Channel One's series "The New Now,' and several tracks from Diamonds & Guitars will be playing in national chains such as Guitar Centers, French Connection, and Baker's Shoes. Additionally, her music video "Alone" has been programmed throughout the retail world in stores such as Bloomingdales, Macys, Journey's, and Nordstroms.
The kicker is that this outside-the-box marketing campaign is being herded, whipped and steered by Moye's own WCE Records label. 'Marketing has always been second nature to me when the product is unique and fills a niche,' states Moye herself. ' I Think we've put together a great record and the fun is just beginning.'
The wind is blowing and when the majors and strong independent labels inevitably lift their heads from the oodles of cookie cutter artists they are currently pushing, it will be a sexy, talented soul siren dubbed 'Malina Wah,' bending solos on an upside down Fender Strat that will be floating in on a fresh breeze. What's for certain (other than death and taxes) is Malina Moye as a 360 artist on a major within six months-mark my words.
