Harvey began doing stand-up comedy in the mid-1980s. His success as a stand-up comedian led to a WB network show, The Steve Harvey Show, which ran from 1996 to 2002 and was a huge hit, winning multiple NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series and one for Outstanding Comedy Series.
