Music Records) - The multi award winning rock/jazz/blues group Reverend Zen continues to receive music industry accolades for the third consecutive year. In late April the band was the recipient of two Finalist Awards from the 2008-2009 Unisong International Song Contest in Los Angeles for "Boy Genius" and "My Sigmund". This
September their song "Her Love" was named a Semi Finalist in 2009's Australia Song Contest in Sydney, while in London "Don't Try to Tell Me" was a Semi Finalist winner in 2009's UK Song Contest.
"Boy Genius", Reverend Zen's slamming ode of a larger than life prodigy, was named a Finalist in the Jazz/Blues Category of this year's Unisong Contest."My Sigmund Freud" the band's rocking tales of a humorous psychotic won Finalist kudos in Unisong's Speciality Category. In the Australia Song Contest "Her Love" brought the group Semi Finalist honors in the International Category. Their song "Don't Try to Tell Me" was a Semi Finalist winner in the Jazz/Blues Category of the UK Song Contest. The Unisong judges remark, "Everything on these songs is tight with good writing and great performances."
The Unisong, Australia and UK Contests have grown to become three of the most respected and largest songwriting contests in the world, receiving thousands of entries each year. Each of the competitions boasts prestigious panels of judges made up of music industry professionals including A&R heads, executives, publishers, recording artists, songwriters and record producers. The Australia Contest in Sydney is sponsored by the Australia Songwriters Association and the Australian Performing Rights Association. The UK Contest, chaired by the Brit Trust and Brit School, is sponsored by the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers, the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, and BBC radio.
This marks the second consecutive year that Reverend Zen has been honored by the Unisong, Australia and UK Song Contests. In 2007-2008's Unisong Contest the band received two Finalist Awards for their songs "Magdalena" and "Bad Attitude". The 2008 Australia Song Contest and 2008's UK Song Contest brought the group a total of four Semi Finalist Awards. Reverend Zen received additional European honors last year when their song "Dangerous Times" was named a 2008 Finalist in France's 100% Song Contest in Paris. Along with those accolades the band received 2008's Golden Wave Artist of the Year Award in Denver, a Best Song Nomination for "Her Love" from 2008's Los Angeles Music Awards and a Best Song Nomination from 2008's Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards for "Bad Attitude".
In January of this year Reverend Zen was honored with seven Finalist Awards and a 2008-2009 Blues/Rock Artist of the Year Nomination from ABC Radio Networks Fame Games Effigy Awards in Costa del Sol, Spain. Last year's Effigy Awards saw the band receive five Finalist Awards with "The Boston Shakedown" winning 2007-2008 Blues/Rock Song of the Year. January 2009 also brought Reverend Zen bandleader-composer Jack Evans his second prestigious ASCAP Plus Award - Jazz & Popular Music Division in New York.
After receiving four Best Song Nominations from the 2007 Los Angeles Music Awards, the genre stretching Reverend Zen was named the Hollywood event's 2007 Blues Artist of the Year, with "Bad Attitude" named 2007 Blues Song of the Year. The band concluded the year receiving kudos as 2007 Artist of the Year from WCH Radio in St. Louis.
In 2006, along with five Runners Up Awards, the group's "Dangerous Times" was a Finalist in the 2006 VH1 Song of the Year Contest in Houston. The year ended with Reverend Zen's cd Angels, Blues & the Crying Moon receiving RGW Radio's 2006 Bronze Artist Award in Norfolk, U.K. Additionally the group has received awards from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest in Washington, D.C., the U.K.'s Singer-Songwriter Awards in London and the Billboard World Song Contest in New York. To date Mr. Evans and Reverend Zen has received fifty-six music industry awards around the world.
