Taffronaut vs Chupacabra features influences from artists and composers such as Lalo Schiffrin, David Axelrod, P-Funk, King Tubby, Jan Hammer and a deep immersion in styles ranging across Pagode, Santeria, Downtempo, Broken Beat, and Bugalú.

Bill Fletcher (ex Cherubs, Canton Café Orchestra) and Noel Watson (ex Insides, Bugz in the Attic) evoke a rich landscape of their local influences typified by the album cover featuring the iconic Wales Millennium Stadium. The pair first met in 1994 and they have played together many times since then in studio sessions and in storming live sets with bands such as Descarga Cubana.
