New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Nefew Official Website) - Nefew release their Six-Track-EP 'Homesick' through On Our Feet Ent. & Puma on December 1st, 2009. Nefew, a truly international and cosmopolitan hip-hop combo based out of Switzerland, are set to release their EP 'Homesick' through iTunes on December 1st, 2009. The project features a lead single with Consequence and Chanj.
The Puma Partnership
The EP is going to be released through On Our Feet Ent. & Puma, a constellation which is rarely seen in today's music environment, although it opens up a whole new perspective for music and lifestyle, especially today, where artists don't get the proper support and labels seem to be stuck with old business practices that are no longer suited for the present entertainment landscape.
'We approached Puma about two months ago and they liked what they heard. Not only do we share the same target audience, but our music is as authentic and fresh as their lifestyle is. Plus we both try to make more out of art, lifestyle and fashion than just a business. Puma's engagement in the environment and their peace driving efforts are quite remarkable, and I think Nefew fits perfectly as artists of a new generation that don't necessarily care about fame but more about impact on culture, music and society, especially in urban music, where money seems to be the key motivator for artists', said Polemikk, rapper and one half of Nefew's production team.
The Story behind 'Homesick'
The Homesick EP is an autobiographical work that addresses the concept of homesickness in a different way. Homesickness, as opposed to 'missing your home', represents the yearning for an existence outside of the daily routines. Due to their multinational background, Nefew soon realized that Switzerland and the neighbouring regions were not the appropriate home for their ideas and music, which merges American style productions with European elegance and humility. But, as so often experienced, talent alone is not enough to make it to a house-hold name in global urban culture, especially when you're as far off the map as Nefew are.
The 'Homesick EP' speaks on the trials and tribulations they have to go through to make it out of isolation into recognition and acknowledgment: 'You know, I spend a lot of time reading and watching blogs, and sometimes I'm just getting sick of seeing people getting a shine they don't necessarily deserve. Then I say to myself: Man, I should be up there. And that's when it hits me like a sledge hammer: In the end, it doesn't really matter who you are and what you do, no, what really matters is who you know and who is vouching for you. See, we produce our own stuff; we don't have big producer names, or great managers with incredible ties to the industry. What you hear is not outsourced; it's us, 'just us'. This EP is not just an effort to bring out good music, but to create opportunities', says Polemikk.
