LOS ANGELES (Lynyrd Skynyrd Fans Website) -
Lynyrd Skynyrd have been forced to cancel the remainder of the "Party of a Lifetime" co-headline tour with
Sammy Hagar due to the medical condition of the band's founding lead guitarist Gary Rossington. Sammy Hagar, with whom the band began touring July 19, will announce his confirmed tour plans through the remainder of August on Tuesday, August 5. Meanwhile, it's anticipated that Lynyrd Skynyrd's own "Vicious
Cycle Tour" will commence August 23 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Last week, Rossington - who underwent a successful open heart surgery in late February and was greenlighted to return to the road - was urged by his doctor to rest in order to combat medical fatigue. The group subsequently cancelled five concerts (from August 1 through August 6).
Upon further medical testing and analysis, Dr. Matthew W. Gwynn at Atlanta Neurology determined that RossingtonN suffered a mild seizure and he's now under the doctor's care. Rossington was released from the hospital yesterday and will need at least three weeks of house rest prior to touring.
Lynyrd Skynyrd lead singer Johnny Van Zant states, "We're hopeful that Gary will have a speedy recovery and look forward to performing in the near future."
Van Zant goes on to say that "Lynyrd Skynyrd encourage all of the fans to head out and see Sammy carry the torch. Sammy's an excellent artist! Great music and hot babes. What more could you ask for?"
For those fans wanting ticket refunds, please contact venue box offices for details. It is anticipated that Lynyrd Skynyrd will make scheduled performances at a later date in these cities.
