New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ CineMedia Promotions) - Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack for The Hurt Locker, available digitally (iTunes and Amazon Digital) on January 12th and in stores on January 19, 2010. Marco Beltrami (3:10 To Yuma, Scream, Max Payne) and Buck Sanders (Max Payne, Mindgame) composed the music.

Marco Beltrami is known for his unconventional approach to film scoring. After studying at Brown University and the Yale School of Music, composer Marco Beltrami continued his training in Italy under the Italian master Luigi Nono. He then relocated to Los Angeles to undertake a fellowship with Academy Award winning composer Jerry Goldsmith. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Beltrami was hired to score Scream, the Wes Craven film that would become a successful trilogy. Following Scream, Beltrami went on to write his critically acclaimed score for Mimic. His recent compositions include Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, Hellboy, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and 3:10 To Yuma, for which he earned an Academy Award nomination.

Buck Sanders has been working with Marco Beltrami since 1997. After studying guitar performance at UCLA, he has designed the sonic palettes and overseen score productions for over 40 films. He has co-composed the scores for Max Payne and 13 with Beltrami.

The Hurt Locker is a riveting, suspenseful portrait of the courage under fire of the military's most unrecognized heroes: the technicians of the bomb squad, who volunteer to challenge the odds and save lives in one of the world's most dangerous places. Three members of the Army's elite Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad battle insurgents and each other as they seek out and disarm a wave of roadside bombs on the streets of Baghdad - in order to try and make the city a safer place for Iraqis and Americans alike. Their mission is clear - protect and save - but it's anything but easy, for the margin of error on a war-zone bomb is zero. A thrilling and heart-thumping look at the effects of combat and danger on the human psyche, The Hurt Locker is based on the first-hand observations of journalist and screenwriter Mark Boal, who was embedded with a special bomb unit in Iraq.

Visionary director Kathryn Bigelow brings together groundbreaking realistic action and intimate human drama in a gripping film starring Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie and Brian Geraghty, with cameo appearances by Ralph Fiennes, David Morse, Evangeline Lilly, and Guy Pearce.

'Kathryn's main goal sonically was to blur the line between sound effects and score to enhance realism and not have an overtly orchestral score leading the film,' said Sanders, 'We decided to use a small ensemble and some of the film's production sounds and then fused them together.'

Beltrami continues, 'Thematically we decided it should conjure up images of a western since the main character's attitude is that of a independent cowboy. Then we used various performance techniques to achieve the atmosphere of an unpredictable, alien landscape'

Summit Entertainment presents The Hurt Locker available on DVD and Blu-Ray on January 12. The Hurt Locker original soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available via iTunes and Amazon Digital on January 12th and in stores on January 19, 2010.
