 New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Blue Note Records) - The Library of Congress has announced the acquisition of the official Dexter Gordon Recorded Sound Archive. This includes all of the 78s, LPs, cassettes, CDs, videotapes, and DVDs from Dexter Gordon's extensive recording and film career. The collection will be housed in the National Audio-Visual Conservation Center (NAVCC) in Culpeper, Virginia. On April 16, 2010, there will be a formal event and reception at the Library of Congress,Washington, D.C. Details to follow. On April 19, 2010, there will be a screening of the film Round Midnight (Warner Bros. Directed by Bertrand Tavernier) - for which Dexter Gordon was nominated for an Oscar as Best Actor and Herbie Hancock won for Best Music in 1986. The screening will take place at the Mary Pickford Theater in the Libary of Congress, with an introductory talk on the making of Round Midnight by Gordon's widow and former manager-producer Maxine Gordon.
