New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ National Songwriting Foundation) - Saturday Night Live's guitarist Jared Scharff receives songwriting award from the Song of the Year songwriting contest (www.songoftheyear.com) with his song "Stereo." Jared's song received top honors in the "Rock Category" while competing against thousands of other songwriters worldwide.

When asked what inspired Jared to write his award winning song, he recalls, "I saw a Boston band play in New York City one night. The one thing I loved about the band was how relentless they were. It was full on, all the time. It inspired me to want to write a song that had that same vibe and attitude." The Song of the Year judging panel believes he accomplished this and much more. Michael Klein (a major label promoter) notes that the song's "effervescent drive demands attention" while Marty Rodgers (from a leading music publisher) calls the song "stylistic, unique, and radio-ready." Based on the judging panel's scores, "Stereo" has all of the key elements to be a hit!

Jared received some excellent prizes from "Song of the Year," including a sizeable cash award that he promptly used to buy a new computer which he uses in his home studio. Jared also received software and merchandise from Song of the Year sponsors D'Addario, Planet Waves and Sony creative software. In regards to his experience with the Song of the Year songwriting contest, Jared comments, "They have been incredibly kind to me and generous with awards. They go out of their way to make you feel special and that your song matters."

The Song of the Year songwriting contest judging panel consists of music industry professionals including world renowned recording artists, songwriters, record labels, and music publishers. In addition to cash prizes for the top songwriters, they also help upcoming songwriters network with music insiders by sending the top fifty songs out each month to labels and publishers for further consideration. Many songwriters have furthered their careers through the contest.
