Jewel stops live shows because of her bassist's death

NEW YORK (Atlantic Records) - The tour had been set to begin on Sept. 19 in North Charleston, S.C. Although Jewel will not perform with her band, Atlantic said she plans to perform alone at acoustic shows in the near future.

Terome "T-Bone" Hannon died Sept. 4 after suffering a stroke. The Detroit native, who was 39, had played with Jewel for three years. "T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him," Jewel said in a statement released by Atlantic Records. "We are all just in shock and hurt."

Jewel, 29, was to tour to support her latest album, "0304," on which the singer-songwriter traded in her folkie tunes for dance tracks. The shows where Jewel's full band was to have played have been scrapped. The singer's latest album, 0304, is a departure from the folk-style sound which made her famous, and any attempt at recreating the music would require a full band.
Jewel's tour was to have begun September 19 in South Carolina.
