LONDON, UK (MTV Europe) - The
Travis are set to launch the first leg of MTV Networks Europe's 'Road To Edinburgh' tour with a free live concert to celebrate the 10 years of the MTV
Europe Music Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall on 29th
September 2003.
Travis will be joined by fiery Brit-rock vocalist Skin and Polish sensation Myslovitz - all three bands have achieved network priority status with MTV Network's Europe. The concert will be made into a 1 hour television show to air live across MTV Networks
Europe from 9th October 2003. You can see this first Road To Edinburgh programme - featuring Travis, Skin and Myslovitz on MTV UK & Ireland at 8pm on
Thursday 16th October.
Glaswegians Travis have elevated themselves to prominence as pioneers of hugely popular anthems since the band's 2001 album 'The Invisible Band'. On the cusp of releasing their much-awaited fourth album '12 memories', Travis' intoxicating music and impactful lyrics strike massive appeal with European audiences and are sure to wow the 'Road to Edinburgh' crowd in London. The first single from the upcoming album, 'Re-Offender', a poignantly beautiful love song about being trapped in a brutal relationship, was a recent exclusive both on air and on-line for MTV Networks Europe. The Network will also be supporting Travis' upcoming album release by recording an MTV Live at the Royal Festival Hall show to be aired on the eve of their new album release on 13 October.
Skin is best known as the former leading lady of controversial and grittily talented indie-rock band Skunk Anansie. Skin has both presented and performed at the MTV Europe Music Awards with the band. She enjoyed a cavalcade of musical successes with Skunk Anansie, selling four million albums worldwide, and regularly topping the European charts. Now as a solo artist, Skin's musical influences have led her in a new direction and her intense and moving debut solo album 'Fleshwounds', was released this summer. Subtle and slow burning, 'Fleshwounds' is the first chapter in Skin's new life. Skin recently played to over 60,000 people at an MTV Live event in Rome and has just finished recording a special live set for MTV NL.
Polish superstar band Myslovitz, from the industrial town of Myslowice in Southern Poland will join Travis with an eclectic style that is all their own - mood-inspired, full-bodied rock tunes combined with emotional lyrics. Promoted earlier this year as MTV Europe's first ever Polish Network Priority, their melodic, guitar-oriented sound will give the 'Road to Edinburgh' crowd a taste of cool Eastern European flavour. As a result of their rapidly broadening appeal across Europe, Myslovitz' first album turned gold just on the strength of the first single alone and has since gone platinum.
Each of the 4 live music events on the 'Road to Edinburgh' will be made into a one hour television show during which MTV will be counting down the top 20 MTV Europe Music Awards moments, treating viewers to live music from the events and a looking forward towards the big night in Edinburgh in November.
MTV Europe's 'Road To Edinburgh' will be transmitted across MTV Europe's 113 million homes from October 9th. The London event of the 'Road to Edinburgh' tour will be held in the Royal Festival Hall and doors open at 6.30pm.
MTV Europe's 'Road To Edinburgh' will visit London, Birmingham, Manchester and Newcastle in the run up to the 2003 Awards - dubbed the 'music Oscars'. To celebrate the 10th year of the MTV Europe Music Awards, each 'Road To Edinburgh' show will feature performances by the artists that young people in Europe love and will include appearances by previous MTV Europe Music Awards hosts, performers, presenters or nominees.
